Thankful For the Gift of Family

I have decided that fall is pretty much the most perfect season of all.  The scenery is beautiful, the weather is happy, the air is crisp and clean, and the thought of all the joy of the holidays coming around the corner (without the actual stress of being in the middle of it) is just like a perfect dollop of whipped cream on a slice of pumpkin pie.

But nothing could have made the joy of experiencing fall for the first time more perfect than my parents and grandma visiting us from Arizona.  They flew in and spent the last few days with my uncle’s family and my husband and I, and it was the perfect breath of fresh air.  Although they didn’t have a lot of time with us, we did get to all of the important things…

We took a trip to the local apple cider mill and had some apple cider and donuts…

And of course, we took the obligatory apple barrel picture…

Took some lovely fall walks…

And snapped some pictures along the way…

I really wanted this picture in front of our doorstep…because all you have left at the end of the day are memories and pictures, right?

We also all probably gained like five pounds over less than five days…

We also played lots of ping-pong and laughed until our cheeks and stomachs hurt…

And taught grandma how to use her smart phone…she now knows how to send text messages and save pictures onto her phone!

Most of all, our precious time together reminded us that family is one of the greatest gifts God has given us on this earth as a reflection of what it is like to be a part of His family as sons and daughters of a good, good Father.  We may not be perfect and we don’t always love each other well, but our few days together reminded us of the importance of shared memories, good food, lots of laughter, the beauty of forgiveness, and the warmth of embracing each other in love.

Thankful for the gift of family today and always.
